In this lecture the properties of the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) are discussed. It is shown how a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analysis based on the DFT can be improved by careful selection of the proper weighting functions. Finally the implementation of FFT-analyzers is discussed with respect to real-time analysis, overlap analysis and trigger sources.
Enable the participant knowledge about how to make correct FFT analysis of signals from sound and vibration transducers by giving an overview of how to choose the most fundamental parameters that are found in an FFT analyzer.
A course for engineers and technicians involved in measuring sound and vibration using FFT frequency analyzers.
Basic knowledge in mathematics, physics and electrical measurements is recommended. Some knowledge of fundamental acoustics and vibration is preferred.
