Anti-vibration control of engines and gearbox is gaining more interest. There are several reasons for this including saving fuel consumption by switching off some cylinders when full power is not needed.
Switching cylinders on and off creates vibration.Car bodies are getting lighter compared to the engines. In particular, the larger 6 or 8 cylinder diesel engines vibrate and create vibration in the car body. Hybrid cars regularly switch between gasoline and electric motor.Switching on and off the engines, especially in small diesel cars, creates vibration.
The new solution is to damp this vibration with an active electrically controlled anti-vibrator. An accelerometer has been added to the closed loop systems either to the every anti-vibrator device or in a critical place in the car body.
